  • Condition: Superb condition for the age. A slight tarnish due to the age. The buckle is in perfect condition. 84 Russian silver. Cloisonne, chanpleve and a bit of engraving. Russian stamps on the back. A really good piece of old Russian Imperial period jewelry.

    Description

    Up for consideration is a superb Russian buckle from the time of the czars. It's a 3 part buckle with elaborate cloisonne. The silver wire to create the cloisonnes are fine and  double twisted, soldered with excellant craftsmanship. The buckle is stamped 84 and double A. (meaning Dagestan Mountain village of Kubach) The buckle is an antique Imperial Russian buckle (kilelainen)....The silver was gold guilded.The cloisonne glass inlay is very carefully done. The two  pieces of the buckle join together with a small dagger, The dagger is inlaid (champleve style) The curvature of the buckle is unique. It was made by a master silversmith..so very nice ! There are similar ones made during the same time period, but niello style. This is top flight.  The small dagger is attached by a small silver chain.This must have taken weeks to make. The double twisted very tiny wire to create the cloisonnes,the fine enamel work The textured background, The sculptured shape of the buckle. The fine inlay  of the powdered glass to fill the cloisonnes.The fine craftsmanship to form the shaped of the pieces to fit together with precision. Well taken care of through the past century.The period of being made was probably the 1850's to 1900. A very fine example of Imperial Russian Craftsmanship.
